What is an ECG?
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that measures the electrical impulses of the heart. With every beat, an electrical wave pulses through the heart, causing the muscle to squeeze and pump blood from the heart. A regular heartbeat on ECG will show the rate and rhythm of the contractions in both the upper and lower chambers.
An ECG can help healthcare professionals determine how long the electrical wave takes to pass through the heart, showing if the electrical activity is normal or irregular. It can also assist a cardiologist in determining if parts of the heart are damaged, overworked, or too large.

Learn MoreWhat to Expect During an ECG
Schedule AppointmentAn ECG is a quick test to check your heartbeat. During this test, you will lie down, and sticky patches called electrodes will be attached to the chest, arms, and legs. Wires connect these patches to a computer, which will display or print results. You will be asked to stay still during this test, as movement may interfere with results.
The test will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
After the test is done you’ll be able to go back to your regular routine.
