A lower extremity ultrasound is an imaging procedure that looks at blood flow in the lower extremities and helps our team detect if there are any issues with the veins and arteries in the legs. The ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to give us a detailed image of your blood vessels.
Most commonly, the lower extremity ultrasound is done to search for issues as blood clots and blockages.

Schedule an AppointmentTo start, a gel is applied to your legs, and a small wand is used to look at the blood vessels and veins in your legs. The transducer will be moved back and forth to create a full picture of the area, which will then be seen on a monitor.
The test will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Results
After the test, you should be able to return to your normal routine immediately and a provider will discuss any further testing or treatment that is needed.
